Sector 17 is the city centre of Chandigarh, with the large pedestrian plaza, the main shopping arcades, banks, offices, hotels and cinema, plus the Inter State Bus Terminal nearby. It is the commercial heart of the city, and it has relatively few residents. Most moves here involve offices, shops and showrooms rather than households.
Rules govern what can be done. Parking is limited and strictly regulated, and the pedestrian plaza is closed to vehicles. We plan commercial moves at night or on Sundays and holidays, arrange a loading spot in advance and obtain permission from the building or the market association. Furniture, files, computers and display units are tagged, cables labelled and fragile items wrapped. A supervisor oversees the whole move.
For shop moves, we prepare a stock list and pack goods into numbered cartons. Garments, electronics and cosmetics each need different packing, and we match the material accordingly.
