What counts as ODC
Over-dimensional cargo (ODC) is any load that goes beyond the normal width, height or length allowed for road vehicles, or is very heavy for its size. Typical examples are industrial machinery, transformers, boilers, large tanks and construction equipment.
How a project move is planned
- Load details. Drawings, dimensions, weight and lifting points of each piece.
- Route survey. The road is checked for bridges, overhead wires, sharp turns, toll gates and narrow stretches.
- Permits. Permissions are taken from the road authorities for the oversized load.
- Equipment. The trailer and lifting equipment are chosen for the weight and size.
- Loading and lashing. The cargo is lifted, placed and secured for the journey.
- Transit and placement. The load moves on the planned route, with escort vehicles where required, and is unloaded at the site.
What we need from you
- Exact dimensions and weight of every piece.
- Where it can be lifted from, and anything that must not be touched.
- Access at both sites: gates, ground strength and space for a crane.
- The date by which the cargo must reach.
