Moving house in Mumbai: what to plan for
Society NOC and lift rules
Most housing societies ask for a no-objection letter before goods leave or arrive, and set the hours when the service lift can be used. Some do not allow moves on Sundays. Ask your society office early, because the date depends on it.
Old buildings and small lifts
Many older buildings in Dadar, Matunga, Girgaon and the suburbs have narrow staircases, or lifts too small for a sofa or a fridge. The survey checks this, so large pieces are planned to go down the stairs with enough hands.
Parking and truck timings
Street parking is tight across the city, and traffic rules limit bigger trucks on many roads at busy hours. We plan where the truck will stand and when, and in crowded areas a smaller vehicle may carry goods to the main truck.
Monsoon moves
From June to September, heavy rain can arrive without warning. Moves in these months get extra waterproof wrapping, and loading is timed around the weather where possible.
