Moving in and out of Sector 9
Sector 9 lies in the north-east of Chandigarh, not far from the Sukhna Lake and the Capitol side, and it is a sector of tree-lined roads, a sector market and a good mix of kothis, smaller houses and flats. Many houses have a barsati on the roof, which is often let out to a tenant, so one address can mean two moves in a month: the owner's household and the barsati tenant's single room.
The barsati matters for planning. Access is usually by an outside staircase that is steep and narrow, and furniture has to be carried up or down piece by piece. We ask whether a barsati is involved and how the stairs run. Beds and wardrobes are dismantled, and heavy items such as a refrigerator are strapped to a carrying frame. For tenants, we offer small-load packages with a fixed price.
The roads of the sector are wide, and parking is simple on most streets. Sundays are often the easiest day, as there is almost no traffic and neighbours are at home to help with gate access.
