Deonar: colonies, a large ground and the Eastern Freeway
Deonar is an eastern suburb between Govandi and Chembur, along the Harbour line, and is known for the Deonar abattoir, the Deonar dumping ground, and the colonies around Deonar Village Road. Large housing societies and the newly redeveloped towers contrast with the older settlements.
The Eastern Freeway and the Deonar–Chembur roads provide good links, but the dumping ground and the abattoir attract heavy vehicles that crowd some roads. We plan routes that avoid the main goods corridors. In the monsoon, waterlogging in low-lying parts is common, and a rain plan is essential. In summer, the smell and dust from the dumping ground can affect nearby areas on windy days, so we cover goods well.
Housing includes old chawls, government colonies and cooperative societies. The colonies have wide internal roads, while the chawls have narrow lanes where we use small vehicles. Many government employees live here, and moves are tied to transfers. Societies have lift rules and moving hours. Typical moves are to Govandi, Chembur, Mankhurd and Ghatkopar. Longer trips towards Navi Mumbai can use the Vashi bridge from Mankhurd, and trips to Pune use the Eastern Freeway and the Panvel route. Early mornings give the best road conditions.
Practical planning for Deonar
Deonar, in the east near Govandi and Chembur, is known for the Deonar abattoir and the dumping ground, and for the Deonar Colony and Lallubhai Compound areas. The roads are used by heavy vehicles, and some stretches are dusty and uneven. Residential pockets are modest, with chawls and buildings of old design, and lanes are narrow. We cover goods well and keep dust in mind. Many tenants work in Chembur, BKC and Mankhurd. Typical destinations are Chembur, Govandi, Mankhurd and Vashi, and we plan on covered trucks.
