Wagholi: Nagar Road’s fast-growing township belt
Wagholi is on the Pune–Ahmednagar Road, about fifteen kilometres from the city centre, with the Bakori Phata, the Kesnand Road and the Lohegaon side as its edges. It has grown into one of the largest residential belts in east Pune, with hundreds of housing societies built by developers, offering affordable flats to families working in Kharadi, Viman Nagar and the Nagar Road business parks.
Distance and the road are the main issues. The Nagar Road is the only major road, and it is shared by heavy vehicles, buses and cars. In the morning and evening, the stretch between Wagholi and Kharadi crawls. We plan an early start and give a realistic travel time for moves to the west of Pune, which can take over an hour. If your destination is on the other side of the city, we suggest arranging the unloading for the afternoon.
Society rules in Wagholi are comparable to those elsewhere: a service lift, a deposit and fixed moving hours. The difference is that some of the projects are still under construction, and the roads inside may be rough or have construction vehicles. The crew wears safety gear and the driver confirms the route. A number of buyers move in before the amenities are complete, so we pack with the expectation that the new home may not have a working lift or running water. Typical moves are to Kharadi, Lohegaon, Dhanori and Viman Nagar. Intercity trips to Aurangabad, Ahmednagar and Hyderabad are easy to begin from Wagholi, as the highway is right outside.
