Moving in and out of Main Road
Main Road is the oldest and busiest commercial spine of Ranchi, running from the Albert Ekka Chowk past Firayalal, Kutchery Road and Daily Market towards the Jharkhand Mandir side. Jewellers, textile showrooms, electronics stores, medical shops, banks, hotels and offices line both sides, and the lanes behind are full of older flats and houses where traders and families have lived for generations. The street is busy from morning until night, and festival seasons turn it into a sea of shoppers.
Space and time are the main constraints. Parking for a goods vehicle is almost impossible during the day, and traffic on the one-way sections moves slowly. We schedule shop and office moves for very early morning, before shutters rise, or late at night after closing, and residential moves for mid-morning. Smaller vehicles and handcarts reach the doors, and extra loaders keep the work quick. A supervisor stays on site and coordinates with the shop owner and neighbours.
Shops hold stock, glass counters, shelves, signboards and billing computers. We visit first, list the items and pack in numbered cartons and crates so that unloading and re-display are quick. Jewellery and electronics are moved with the owner present and with sealed cartons. Flats above shops have steep, narrow staircases, so furniture is dismantled and carried by hand with extra hands.
