Kothrud: the classic Pune residential neighbourhood
Kothrud is one of Pune’s best-known residential neighbourhoods, spread across Paud Road, Karve Road, Mayur Colony and Dahanukar Colony, with the Kothrud bus depot as a key reference. It has been a family area for decades, with bungalows, row houses and apartment societies, and many of its residents are long-term owners rather than tenants. Paud Road and Karve Road are busy, particularly near the Kothrud depot and the Chandni Chowk end. Narrow lanes inside the colonies, like those near Mayur Colony, are lined with parked two-wheelers, and a large truck cannot always turn. Morning starts, well before the school rush, work best. Typical moves go to Erandwane, Karve Nagar, Warje and Bavdhan, and families looking for a bigger flat often move to Baner, Aundh or Sus.
