On Tuesdays and Saturdays, and during Navratri, the roads are packed with worshippers, and parking is almost impossible, so we check the calendar and prefer other weekdays. Mid-morning on an ordinary day is usually best. Lanes behind the temple are narrow, with parked scooters, and a smaller vehicle often works better.
Families get furniture dismantled and wrapped in blankets, kitchens packed in labelled cartons, fragile items padded and staircases protected. Pooja items and idols are packed separately with soft padding and handled respectfully. Small shops and flower sellers near the temple are moved after closing. Fixed prices apply to one- and two-room loads.
