Homes in Mylapore and how we move them
Many homes are older houses and low-rise flats on narrow streets. Heavy teak furniture and brass items are common.
Truck access, parking and timing
Streets around the temple and tank are narrow and crowded on festival days, so we may use a smaller vehicle for the last stretch.
What the price depends on
Street width, stairs and the amount of heavy furniture decide the price.

Mylapore: temple streets and heritage houses
Mylapore is known for the Kapaleeshwarar Temple, its tank and the four mada streets around it, and everyday life in the neighbourhood follows the temple calendar. During the Panguni Peruvizha in March–April and in the weeks of Margazhi music season in December–January, the streets around the temple fill with people, and a moving truck is not welcome there.
The old houses here have deep rooms, courtyards and wooden pillars, and families keep brass lamps, grinding stones, wooden almirahs and puja items that deserve to be handled with respect. Our crew wraps the brass in soft cloth, packs idols upright in padded boxes and keeps all the pooja items in a separate, labelled carton so they can be unpacked first.
Streets such as Mada Street and the lanes off Luz Church Road are narrow, and vehicles often have to stop on a wider road. We usually send a smaller shuttle vehicle in these cases. Typical moves go to Alwarpet, Adyar, Royapettah and T Nagar, and some families move out to Velachery or Pallikaranai for bigger homes.
Practical planning for Mylapore
Mylapore is centred on the Kapaleeshwarar Temple and its four mada streets, with traditional homes, narrow lanes and a strong festival calendar. During the Panguni Uthiram and the Arubathimoovar festival, roads around the temple are closed to vehicles, and we avoid these dates completely. Many houses have old furniture, kitchen vessels and pooja items that we treat with respect and wrap separately. The streets are tight, so we use smaller vehicles and experienced loaders. Common destinations include Alwarpet, Adyar and Mandaveli.
