T Nagar: moving through the city’s busiest shopping district
T Nagar is known across Tamil Nadu for its textile and jewellery shops around Ranganathan Street and Usman Road, and the crowds there decide how a move is planned. On festival and wedding-shopping weekends the streets near the market become almost impossible for any vehicle, so we strongly suggest a weekday or an early Sunday morning for a move from the commercial core.
The residential side of T Nagar, along streets like Venkatanarayana Road, Thanikachalam Road and the roads around Panagal Park, is a mix of older flats, individual houses and shops with homes above them. Many buildings have no parking at all and a few have lifts that fit only three or four people. Narrow turnings often mean the truck waits on a wider road while the goods are moved by hand or on a trolley.
Because so many families here also run a business from the ground floor, we get combined requests: the shop stock goes with the household. We treat those as two jobs with separate lists, so that nothing from the shop is mixed into the home boxes. Typical moves go to Ashok Nagar, West Mambalam, KK Nagar and Nungambakkam, and they are short enough to finish in a single day if the building cooperates.
