Pallavaram: hills, a cantonment and a famous weekly market
Pallavaram is an old suburb close to Chennai’s airport, set around the Pallavaram hills, the cantonment and the busy Pallavaram market. It is perhaps best known for its weekly cattle and goods market, which brings heavy traffic to the main road on the days it is held. A move planned on a market day can cost an hour in the lane near the market.
The cantonment is the other special feature. Within its boundary, roads are controlled, and vehicles from outside need permission to enter. Residents who are in service quarters or in houses inside the cantonment must tell us at booking, so we can arrange the passes, supply the vehicle and crew details, and confirm the time when entry is allowed.
Outside the cantonment, the area is a mix of old houses, small apartments and new complexes along the Radial Road. Many families have lived here for generations, which means attics, loft storage and a lot of items that have not been moved in years. We suggest an early decluttering, since the quantity you can leave behind can lower the cost. Moves usually go to Chromepet, Tambaram, Guindy and Pammal, and flights make the airport road a handy exit for those heading north.
