Sembakkam lies between Medavakkam, Selaiyur and Tambaram, around the Sembakkam lake and the Sembakkam–Medavakkam Road. The area has the familiar south Chennai pattern: a village core with temples and a market, surrounded by new layouts and apartment blocks built to meet demand from IT and manufacturing workers.
The Sembakkam lake has been an important source of water and, in heavy rains, a cause of flooding. The streets nearest to it can go under water, so a move between October and December needs a rain plan, with plastic covers, a standby date and a loading position on higher ground. Sembakkam is south of Tambaram, near Madambakkam and Medavakkam, with a lake and many new residential layouts. Roads are being improved but remain narrow in many layouts, and heavy rain can cause flooding. We confirm the address with a landmark and, if the lane is soft, shuttle goods using a smaller vehicle. The distance from central Chennai is long, and the Velachery road can be slow, so we plan for a longer journey. Typical destinations are Tambaram, Medavakkam and Gowrivakkam.
