Pashan: lake, research institutes and hillside lanes
Pashan is a green, hilly neighbourhood in west Pune, around the Pashan Lake, the National Chemical Laboratory, DRDO and several defence and research establishments. The Pashan–Sus road and the Pashan–Baner link road connect it to the nearby suburbs. Many residents are scientists, engineers, defence personnel and teachers, and the area has a calm, institutional atmosphere.
Defence and research housing involves formalities. Quarters must be vacated by a specified date after an inspection, entry to campuses requires a pass for the vehicle and the crew, and some campuses allow moves only on working days. We ask about these requirements at booking, and the passes are arranged in advance. A move inside a campus can be slow because of security checks, so we plan extra time.
Pashan’s roads are hilly, with some steep gradients and sharp turns, particularly towards Sus and Sutarwadi. We choose a vehicle that can take the slopes and a driver who knows them, and for tall load, we are careful with clearance under the trees. In the monsoon, the hillside roads can be slippery and the lake side can be foggy, so we keep a standby date. Typical moves are to Baner, Bavdhan, Sus and Kothrud. The Pashan–Baner link road leads to the highway quickly, which helps for outstation moves to Mumbai and Bengaluru.
